Summary

This final report reviews previous analysis of a luxury mixed-use hotel and concludes with a redesign of the mechanical and other supporting systems. Improving energy efficiency in the building helped drive the new design. The breadth topics included a façade modification, an addition of solar panels to reduce the electric load, and a structural analysis of the additional roof load.

The mechanical system was improved by adding a dedicated heat recovery chiller to the cooling plant. Also, air handling units and variable air volume units were changed to radiant cooling and dedicated outdoor air units. Energy modeling and cost estimates were performed to evaluate the benefits of the new design.
